Founded in 2014
Files & Film is an Annual Juried Photographic Art Exhibition with no theme. The theme is photography. Files & Film showcases a photography exhibition representing a full scope of photographic work from traditional film, instant, to alternative methods like cyanotype, various chemical developing, hybrids, to mixed media including fiber, resin, collage, paint, to digital formats and new media. Submissions come in an incredible variety of formats, subjects, and styles.
The inception of Files & Film Juried Annual Photographic Art Show began from casual conversations between artists on the 600 Block in St. Petersburg back in 2013. By 2014, founder Xina Scuderi convinced ‘The Oleson Gallery’ to host the first Files & Film. Scuderi turned to local businesses related to photographic arts in the community. Support from Master Printer Bradley Erickson of Erickson Digital Arts, then Robin Dana and Leslie Curran at Articles Gallery and Custom Framing sent Files & Film on the path to become what it is today.
Through the years Files & Film has supported the photographic art community in Tampa Bay where previously there were little to no opportunities exclusively for photographers. Files & Film has helped launch artists into relationships with galleries. Artists have met each other through the show. Some have even started their own groups. We have had artists develop collections and solo shows from the feedback received from other artists, jurors and sponsors during their experience with the show. Files & Film has given awards to artists to add to their CV Resumes which included many cash and sponsored prizes. A handful of artists have received grants using the award titles and the award winning work in their proposals.
